State Sen. Mark C. Montigny, D-New Bedford, has announced that funding he secured in this year’s budget will be included despite recent veto attempts. The assistant majority leader and Rules Committee chairman said in a news release he leveraged his senior leadership position to preserve funding for New Bedford area programs that provide critical after-school and summer programming for children.
The funding includes $650,000 in support of local organizations, including but not limited to: Zeiterion Theatre; New Bedford Historical Society; AHA! New Bedford; Dennison Memorial Community Center; Community Boating Center of New Bedford; and the New Bedford Art Museum/Artworks!
In the release, Montigny said “giving our children increased access to world-class cultural programming and after-school activities is a cornerstone of building a bright future for New Bedford. I look forward to seeing these organizations collaborate to leverage this resource in order to foster an environment that will inspire and lead the next generation to a future full of hope and success.”
Montigny represents the 2nd Bristol and Plymouth District that includes Acushnet, Dartmouth, Fairhaven, Mattapoisett, and New Bedford.
