Welcome Back!

All re-opening dates are subject to change depending on public health data,
as well as State and local regulations. 

The New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center re-opens on July 9th. 
The Center’s hours will be Thursday – Sunday, 10am-4pm. Visitation will be limited to 10 guests at a time, social distancing protocols will be followed, and masks will be required of guests, volunteers, and staff. Click Here to read their full set of policies.

The New Bedford Whaling Museum will reopen to Members on July 9
and to the public on July 23.

The Museum’s hours will be Thursday – Sunday, 10am-4pm. The Museum has instituted a timed admission system. You will need to choose a two-hour block of time for your visit. The maximum capacity of the Museum is set at 125 people, social distancing protocols will be followed, and masks will be required of guests, volunteers, and staff.

The Rotch-Jones-Duff House & Garden Museum will reopen on July 9th from 1-4pm.
Starting July 10th Museum hours will be Wednesday – Saturday, 10am-4pm. Visitors are asked to schedule their visit by phone or on-line, to wear a mask and to physically distance while on Museum property. Click Here To Learn More

“Let the Rythm Move You!” Art Activity 
with Alison Wells 
Its Kids Rule at the Virtual Art Table this month. Make fun and easy maracas with artist Alison Wells.
All the materials can be found at home:
– 2 plastic soda/seltzer bottles
– 2 cardboard toilet paper tubes
– scissors
– 1 cup uncooked rice
– 1 cup uncooked beans
– colored tape
– paint (optional)
Perfect to use during Toe Jam Puppet Band’s interactive musical Vaha! fun.

Ferdinand the Bull & The 3 Little Pigs
Snuggle up with your favorite stuffed animal or real furry friend and join the NBSO for an afternoon of stories and music. Enjoy two familiar stories, Ferdinand the Bull and The Three Little Pigs, with a slightly new twist. Jesse (violin) and Ealain (narrator) will present a virtuosic rendition of Ferdinand the Bull with lots of violin theatrics and dramatic narration. Peter and Emmy will give their premiere performance as narrators in Daniel Dorff’s musical version of Three Little Pigs. Be ready for a fun, silly time with these New Bedford Symphony musicians!

Virtual Pre-Ballet Class 

presented by the New Bedford Ballet
Is your child interested in trying a dance class? New Bedford Ballet will present an interactive, virtual PreBallet class for ages three to eight. Children will engage in multiple activities such as a warm-up, ballet steps, stretching, and creative movement activities. All that is needed is a small space to dance, comfortable clothes that your child can move in, and a willing participant!

Look for the brightly colored artMOBILE at 396 County Street, in the RJD’s circular driveway. Grab a kit and work at a table overlooking the RJD rose garden. Kits can also be taken home. Behind the Scenes of DATMA’s Light 2020

Join DATMA for a brief behind the scenes visit of the public art project, Photo Kinetic Grid by Soo Sunny Park, featuring DATMA’s co-founder, Roger Mandle and Executive Director, Lindsay Mis interviewed by Viera Levitt, UMass Dartmouth Gallery Director. Lindsay Mis will be on location from the CVPA Star Store Campus building’s corner space, Swain Studio and take you to see the installation from close up.

Whaling City Sounds Annual Jazz Series
Recorded at the Steeple Playhouse
Featuring vocalist Shawnn Monteiro with the Mike Renzi Trio including Dave Zinno on bass and Steve Langone on drums.

Mike Renzi was music director and pianist for Tony Bennett for a few years, including his recording with Lady Gaga, and also was music director at Sesame Street for a decade or more. He toured with Peggy Lee, Lena Horne, Mel Torme and many others, including a few weeks with Frank Sinatra.

New Bedford Festival Theater’s Summer Academy Apprentices Reach for the Stars
Tune in for an inspiring night featuring the 2020 Summer Academy apprentices and their solo performances of beloved Les Miserables songs as well as Erin Ban, former NBFT apprentice, who played Fantine in the 2008 NBFT production, members of the Broadway and National tour. And, of course, George and Armand, weigh in on this award-winning, record breaking NBFT production.

Living History Architectural Walking Tour Series: Whitman Mills Walking Tour
hosted by the NB Preservation Society

Learn about textile tycoon William Whitman who created a spectacular series of Textile Mills – Whitman, Manomet, Nonquit and Nashawena – in the north end of New Bedford on Belleville and Riverside Avenues. These mills served as an example of the powerful economic impact the Textile Industry had not only in New Bedford but regionally and nationally.
