Kilburn Virtual – The Isolation Contemplation’s For many the complete separation from others or the strained loss of community and missed
hopes and dreams has been extremely devastating. This is a time of postponed weddings, loved
ones dying behind doors we cannot enter, and livelihoods being stripped from people. Routines have
stopped and  lives have changed. The Isolation Contemplation’s is a virtual exhibit featuring local artists

Cultural Continuity through Indigenous Languages
& Movement Building:  
A Talk by Jennifer Weston, Wôpanâak Language Reclamation Project Director

Jennifer Weston (Hunkpapa Lakota, Standing Rock) is a writer and producer who has worked for the past 25 years with Tribal community programs focused on environmental justice, Indigenous education, and language revitalization. Currently she directs the Wôpanâak Language Reclamation Project. Prior to joining WLRP in 2012, Weston managed Cultural Survival’s endangered languages program in Cambridge, MA, building a network among 350+ Indigenous communities, serving as researcher and producer for the 2011 documentary WE STILL LIVE HERE: Âs Nutayuneân, and the film’s companion website, OurMotherTongues.org

Weston also worked as an associate producer on the PBS documentary series WE SHALL REMAIN, and as a correspondent for the Lakota Nation Journal. As a student and staffer at Brown University, she developed Native studies curricula and community programs to support Native student retention, and worked as a research assistant on Native youth projects focused on cultural resiliency. Weston trained as a journalist with Pulitzer Prize-winning reporters in Providence, RI, the founding editor of Indian Country Today, and a Visionmaker Media apprenticeship at WGBH. From 2014 – 2017 she co-designed and led the course, “Native American Women in North America: Indigenous Mother Tongues, Leadership and Self-Determination,” as part of the UMass-Boston Civic Engagement Scholarship Initiative. Jennifer is an active learner of Lakotiyapi and Wôpanâôt8âôk.

the NB Whaling National Historical Park

Kicking off during (V)AHA! and running through the winter, the scavenger hunt will feature 10 (pictures of) National Parks hiding in downtown shops. Stop by the National Park Information Station (inside the Visitor Center at 33 William Street) to pick up your checklist then get exploring! The Visitor Center is open Thursday – Sunday from 10am – 4pm.

A special pre-recorded concert featuring musicians performing at downtown businesses. 

Myles Goulart is a Fairhaven-based musician who plays multiple instruments such as harp, piano, cello, and guitar. He is the owner of Hewn (760 Purchase Street) a non-binary boutique that just opened up this summer. Myles will be performing some songs and talking about Hewn.

The talented Corrinn Jusell will be on the Front Porch for (V)AHA! Night. It’s “Made in New Bedford” and there will not only be a pop-up sale of Corrinn’s pottery, she’ll also be giving a demonstration of part of her artist process. The Norway Show (That Didn’t Happen)
 
Paintings by Severin Haines

The Norway Show (that didn’t happen) explores Skude, Sig’s family’s retreat on the island of Karmøy. Comprising of 21 vibrant works, the exhibition presents a panoramic view from Skude, which sits at Karmøy’s southernmost tip, The Norway Show is both an artistic exploration of color and surface and a celebration of home and memory.

Boston Maki is an east coast street artist with a studio located in the Killburn Mill. You can find Boston Maki street art through out New Bedford.

Virtual Studio Tour with artist David Cole
Hosted by UMass Dartmouth CVPA

Zoom on over to Hudson, New York and visit with the artist who created the current installation at UMass Dartmouth Star Store Campus, ‘New Landscapes.’

Cole’s large scale landscape ‘encaustics’ use non-traditional materials and techniques such as shoe polish and beeswax on cement board which is “painted” with a steam iron and a blowtorch. This will be the first virtual visit to this vibrant artist’s studio and will include a demonstration of Cole’s unusual techniques.

Dave Penny is a steady presence on the local folk scene as a composer of songs that are truly unique to Newfoundland and Labrador. With his engaging stage personality, and a style that is entirely his own, he has been a key figure in resurgence in popularity of Newfoundland comic songs.This program is part of the Center’s series on immigration and cultural heritage on the working waterfront.
