About AHA! 

AHA! (Art, History, Architecture) is a New Bedford program that provides a free platform for the city’s creative and business community to showcase their talents collectively, making arts, culture, and creative expression accessible to all. For over 25 years, AHA! 2nd Thursday events have provided community partners with a time and place to shine. AHA!’s collaboration with state, municipal and private funding partners is leveraged to attract local, regional and long-distance visitors to downtown New Bedford, revitalizing the city through a growing creative economy. 

Responsibilities 

This part-time contract position is focused on the day-to-day relationship with AHA! partners and the coordination of programming each month. The coordinator supports the AHA! Executive Director in the smooth operations of AHA! Nights on the 2nd Thursday of the month and additional programming as needed. The coordinator serves as an AHA! representative reflecting the values of the organization and engages with the public, talent, and partners in a respectful and helpful manner. 

  • Day-to-day point of contact with all partners, fostering strong, positive relationships.
  • Work with partners on their monthly programming in support of monthly themes and to ensure on time, effective event representation. Engage a continual feedback loop so both partners and AHA! deliver quality, engaging experiences for the public. This includes but is not limited to:

o Regular, consistent outreach (in person and email).
o Verifying that “AHA! Next” webpage program listings are up to date, complete and posted  timely.
o Coordination of event timing to reduce overlap of programs, when possible.
o Distribution of programs and flags to all partners and designated venues.
o Timely collection of monthly attendance numbers from partners, maintaining up to date  records. 

  • Provide ‘night of’ logistics and potential troubleshooting. Assist with AHA! Welcome Desk and  coordination of volunteers. 
  • Management of website partner portal.  

o Coordinate new partner sign up.
o Ensure partner profiles are current/active.
o Assist with program/event postings as needed.
o Troubleshoot technical issues w. marketing contractor or Medium Studio. 

  • Facilitate requests and paperwork to city for support of special event approvals, road closures and meter bagging. 
  • When needed, coordinate AHA! specific programming in support of monthly themes and grant  requirements. 
  • Oversee and maintain up to date AHA! partner database of all active organizations, nonprofits,  businesses, and artists that participate in AHA! Night. 
  • Oversee and maintain AHA! programming talent database of performers, artists, musicians and the  like from past AHA! programs and for potential future programs; assist with seeking new talent.
  • Inform and help creation of partner Marketing Tool Kit (online/print); coordinate its distribution  and adherence.
  • Co-chair the Programming Committee which includes scheduling regular meetings, note-taking,  and setting the agenda with the AHA! Executive Director and fellow Co-Chair. Project management  of committee work will be required from time to time. 

Other responsibilities 

o In collaboration with the AHA! Executive Director, welcome new downtown entities and invite/secure  participation in the AHA! program.
o Attend regular meetings and AHA! Night events.
o Regularly and closely collaborate with marketing contractor. 

Experience & Qualifications 

  • Excellent project management skills. 
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive & Documents. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Living near and familiar with New Bedford, its businesses, institutions, and cultural community.
  • Relationships with New Bedford and Regional creatives and musicians. 
  • A collaborative, resourceful nature and outgoing, flexible personality. 

Independent Contractor 

AHA! is a fiscally sponsored project of The Marion Institute, Inc. (“MI”). The AHA! Program Coordinator Contractor is acting as an independent contractor and is not acting as an employee of MI, The Marion  Institute, Inc., or AHA!. In making payments, MI shall not withhold federal or state income tax, Social Security  contributions, state disability contributions, or any other federal, state, or local statutory deductions. The  independent contractor shall not be eligible to participate in any MI employee benefit plan, program or  arrangement. It shall be the independent contractor’s sole responsibility to pay any and all applicable taxes  and contributions, as required by law. 

Project Duration 

This project will have a term of 10 months, beginning on or about March 1st and ending on December 31,  2026. 

Compensation and Expenses: 

The MI shall compensate the part-time independent contractor at the rate of $2,400.00 per month, for 90 hours of work per month, for a maximum of 920 hours ($26,400) for the duration of the contract. Additional hours will not be paid without prior written approval by MI. Work that is out of scope will not be performed or billed unless MI and independent contractor agree on additional scope. Contractor reports to the AHA! Executive Director.
